Training with the Leicestershire Training Team
The Leicestershire Training Team provides a PEG Care and Feeding Training Course that is aimed at healthcare professionals who are already competent or new in the area of enteral feeding tubes. The course provides learners with the knowledge they need to work effectively and safely with patients who require Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) feeding. The course is CPD accredited by the CPD UK Accreditation Service.
The course covers topics such as learning outcomes, practical sessions to ensure sufficient knowledge to work with peg feeds, procedures for feeding and administering medications, recognising, dealing with and reporting complications, effective mouth care and what to do if the feeding tube is accidentally removed. The Leicestershire Training Team emphasises that learners must be aware of the importance of correct assessment prior to feeding tube insertion in order to ensure appropriate feeding and medication administration. Learners are also expected to be able to recognise complications associated with peg feeding as well as the processes for dealing with them and reporting them. Upon successful completion of the course, learners will have gained sufficient knowledge to work effectively and safely with patients who require PEG feeds.
